Commercial Hazardous Waste & Wastewater Markets
in the United States 2003
by
Environmental Information Limited
This report provides an overview of commercial hazardous waste and wastewater management markets in the United States. It is based on comprehensive studies of the commercial hazardous waste and wastewater management demand in each of the ten regions into which the Environmental Protection Agency administers the United States. The ten-part report series was compiled from reports by 18,072 large quantity generators (LQGs) of hazardous waste, 7,402 hazardous wastewater LQGs and 367 commercial management facilities. Collectively, these reports represent one of the most detailed research efforts ever undertaken to identify commercial hazardous waste and wastewater demand.
This summary provides new definition of U.S. commercial demand for energy recovery, deep well injection, fuel blending, landfill, metal recovery, solvent recovery, stabilization, wastewaters treatment and other treatment/recovery/disposal. The reports also provide a definition of the universe of commercial facilities on both a national as well as a regional basis for these same types of services. The defined universe includes Canadian facilities as well as exempt facilities (e.g. recycling) operating without permits.
The report is based on detailed analysis and compilation of generator and commercial facility reports filed with the EPA. One of the unique features of these reports is that they include demand from hazardous wastewater to commercial hazardous wastewater management facilities. Hazardous wastewater is extensively excluded from USEPA reports. The regional reports provided by Environmental Information Limited (EI) are further enhanced by extensive independent research into the commercial hazardous waste and wastewater management sectors.
