North America’s Largest Environmental Services Directory Goes Exclusively Online

Established in 1983, EI Environmental Services Directory
documented the environmental services sector’s growth and decline.

For Immediate Release – August 27, 2001

Minneapolis, Minnesota – Environmental Information Limited ("EI"), one of the nation’s leading environmental business research firms, began its research operations in 1983 with a focus on providing generators with information about environmental services in the United States. EI researched and compiled the information to produce a printed professional reference titled the EI Environmental Services Directory. EI is announcing today that it is going exclusively online with the directory.

The EI Environmental Services Directory has differentiated itself throughout the years by being a true research reference with relatively detailed data about environmental services. The directory also expanded coverage to include consultants, laboratories, spill response firms, remediation firms, municipal solid waste facilities, and a variety of other services. Today, The EI Environmental Services Directory, with a substantially broader coverage of environmental services than in 1983, has reached the size where it requires five three-inch binders.

"The internet has opened the door to provide a superior service to our customers," said EI president Cary Perket. "The internet allows us to deliver research to multiple user locations at the same firm. It will also make it possible for us to keep the directory more current, although we still face the task of updating information on over 10,000 services."

The online EI Environmental Services Directory will be available for purchase as either individual regional directories or a complete set of five regional directories. There are also two specialty subdirectories with nationwide coverage: The EI Hazardous Waste Facility Directory and the EI Municipal and Industrial Waste Facility Directory.

"The environmental services sector has and is still undergoing tremendous change," stated Perket. "The rate of acquisitions, closures, and mergers made it impossible to keep current a printed directory. Even though our directory today is larger than ever, we have, over the last five years, seen an average of a 10% per year closure rate among firms profiled in the directory." In addition, there continues to be the challenge of the basic updating of moved, new and closed offices, changes or expanded services, and the amazing growth of new area codes. An online directory is much better suited to such a dynamic environment.

The online EI Environmental Services Directory is now available on our website at www.envirobiz.com/businessresearchmenu.htm. The directory search relies upon the extensive standard descriptions that have been provided in the directories over the years. Specific guidance on the exact profiles to be used for the search is provided online with the directory.
