Minneapolis, Minnesota — Environmental Information Limited (EI), having just completed a major new research report, has released revised estimates on the disposal, recycling and treatment of hazardous wastes and wastewaters from the United States. EI estimates the commercial market in the range of seven to eight million tons per year. The amount varies from year to year as a result of changes in manufacturing and remediation activity.
The revised estimates are the result of a comprehensive fifteen-month research effort into hazardous waste management in each of the ten U.S. Environmental Protection Agency jurisdictional regions. The ten-part regional report series examines, in considerable detail, the demand for energy recovery, deep well injection, fuel blending, land disposal, metals recovery, solvent recovery, stabilization, wastewater treatment and other treatments.
“Historically, the private sector invested heavily in the commercial hazardous waste sector because of government-provided estimates showing substantial future opportunity,” says Karl Joyce, one of the authors of the report. “When those opportunities did not materialize, the sector faced considerable challenges. This new research has produced a more realistic estimate of demand giving all stakeholders a better basis for decision-making”
EI has just released a summary report, Commercial Hazardous Waste Management in the United States, which provides an analysis and overview of the findings based on the more detailed ten regional reports. The regional reports, Commercial Hazardous Waste Generator Management Preferences – Regions 1 through 10, provide a detailed examination of how generators reported managing their hazardous waste in each region. The regional report represents one of the most comprehensive analysis of the commercial hazardous waste marketplace that has ever been performed.
“Most research based on actual hazardous waste generators and facilities reports – like the USEPA’s biennial reports – does not focus on commercial hazardous waste and wastewater management,” stated Joyce. “What distinguishes this report series is that it was developed specifically for the purpose of defining the commercial sector’s opportunities. This required preparation of databases that differentiate between shipments to commercial and non-commercial facilities.”
“Considerable good could come from these reports if the commercial hazardous waste and wastewater sectors adjusted their business strategies to match the market opportunity realities defined in these reports,” stated Perket. “The reality of the situation is that we are in a mature market situation where business leaders need to target their markets, establish realistic goals for market share and adjust pricing upward to produce a reasonable profit.”
Environmental Information Limited is a business research firm that specializes in providing information on markets to environmental service and technology firms. The 105-page research report, Commercial Hazardous Management in the United States is available for $750.00, including shipping and handling.
The detailed regional reports are available for purchase separately with prices varying based on the amount of analysis and data needed to be compiled for the individual regions. This is because the number of hazardous waste generators and facilities varies from region to region. Overall, the report uses reports from over 20,000 hazardous waste generators and several hundred hazardous waste facilities.
Environmental Information Limited also offers a number of other research reports on hazardous waste management that are described on Envirobiz.com (www.envirobiz.com).
