Chartwell Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Facility Directory
Chartwell has provided the professional community with this reference work for over a decade. Maintained on an ongoing basis by Chartwell’s research team, the directory provides basic information about 6,500 municipal solid waste facilities. The scope of facilities that are covered includes MSW landfills, waste to energy, material recovery facilities, and others (see graph).
All facilities in this directory have reported that they accepted municipal solid waste. This universe of directory differs, but also overlaps with the facilities from the Chartwell Construction and Demolition Waste Facility Directory, and the Chartwell Industrial and Special Waste Facility Directory. In the other two directories are facilities did not accept municipal solid waste at the time of the last updating by Chartwell researchers.
The online directory provides the option to search by:
- any specific type of MSW facility
- national or state by state basis
- design feature (e.g. leachate collection)
- other types of waste accepted
Please visit our demonstration page to further explore the scope of the directories query.
The result of a search of the online directory is a list of the names of the facilities matching the specified criteria. If numerous facilities match the selected criteria, the search results will be provided on multiple pages. Depending on the chosen criteria for the search, the user may have the option of alphabetizing the list by criteria other than the name of the facility.
Upon selecting a specific facility, the user is presented with the available information on the facility. The same standard facility profile is provided for each facility regardless of the search criteria.
Each search is done solely on the basis of selected criteria. No fee is charged to the facilities for being included in the directory. The inclusion of a specific facility does not constitute an endorsement of the facility nor is it intended to infer the facility is in compliance with all environmental rules and regulations. It is recommended that before using any facility, that further due diligence is done on the facility.
The Chartwell Solid Waste Group researches these facilities by telephone and written surveys. The information about each facility in this directory relies upon the accuracy of the information provided by the facility. Likewise, the absence of information on a facility is an indication that the facility has chosen not to provide the information.
