| Background: The commercial hazardous waste market is segmented into many specialized waste management treatment and disposal options such, but obviously not limited to deep well injection, retorts, solvent recovery, stabilization, and thermal desorbers. These specialized markets share a common original legislative market driver, the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act (“RCRA”) passed in 1976. Many of these specialized markets have common market drivers in the hazardous waste regulations passed under the authority of RCRA, but some also have unique rules pertaining to them due to their technology (e.g. boilers and industrial furnaces) or the type of waste (mercury devices, e-waste).
Despite their sometimes unique market characteristics and rules, the markets are inter-related because they share common customers and changes in one market are a harbinger of changes in other specialized markets. Further, because some customers have preferences to work directly with only one primary hazardous waste management vendor, many hazardous waste companies are important customers for each other. The under lying premise of this consulting report is that despite the uniqueness of many market participant’s own specialized services, the company have considerable mutual interests. |
